“This is a sacred place where few people have ever walked. Shhhh...what's that? I can hear a mysterious tune…” Kaepora Gaebora- The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Inspiration
I had the esteemed pleasure of co-creating Ocarina of Time-themed drinks with the Mixology Mixshow, a pair of musical and libational mixologists. Each of us made a couple of drinks inspired by locations present in Hyrule. One of their mixes was a take on the Lost Woods. Their interpretation of the area surrounding the forest temple pays homage to the grassy depths of the forest. The drink's beautiful flourish of herbaceous foliage lavishly garnishes the sweet and funky cocktail. Resembling a caipirinha, the Lost Woods cocktail features muddled kiwis and cachaça accented with flavors of melon and elderflower. I personally got a bit lost in the garnish, sipping on this one, but what greeted me in the glass was a wonderful drink bursting with reminiscent tropical flavors.
Flavor Analysis
A lush scent of greenery greets the nose and a kiwi-adjusted cachaça funk fights its way through to the taste buds. There must be berries in these forest bushes because the funk has a hint of tropical fruit that lingers very pleasantly with the sweet tartness of lime. The texture of the end palate is dry and herbaceous.
