As soon as I saw a wine cocktail that featured a bitter orange liqueur (the site said Aperol, but my heart belongs to Campari) I was jazzed. I had to try it.
Many a Negroni I've had, so I saw this cocktail as an opportunity to get to know one of its reagents a little deeper. It just felt like a good idea to combine it with muddled watermelon from a freshly sacrificed melon named Bern (context is key here, you shoulda been there). Was I right? Well, let's say there was trouble...
There was a lot going on with this one, namely the interplay with the watermelon moscato (a light and refreshing Spring flavor), the Campari (bitter orange), and the watermelon itself (sweet, juicy, and with some earthly tang).
Combined together, it reminded Kiersten of a drink we had previously called Ranch Water (tequila, lime, and sparkling water). Not sure how we got to that flavor, but I agree that it was like a watermelon version of that. Call it the WaWatermelon from the Ranch, if ya wanna.
