“I am evil! Have I made myself clear?!” - Shego
Inspiration
Shego is s criminal mercenary that protects Draken in the TV show and subsequent movies of Kim Possible. She also made an appearance in the Kim Possible World showcase adventure in the Mexico Mission in EPCOT from the years 2009 to 2012. Although Shego is noted in the series as abrasive and evil, she shows a high moral compass and expresses genuine care and gratitude. In her early years she got her powers and alongside her brothers fought on a hero team called Team Go. She goned and left the group saying that she disliked her brothers, although around that time she also started to show interest in the evil deeds they were stopping. To represent her characteristic two-tone outfit and personality, we’ve combined some bitter green gelatin and bitter black liqueur.
Workshopping
Shego has two distinct colors that are emphasized in her style: vibrant green, and dark black. However, her personality also takes on both a sour and bitter yet oddly sweet tone. We wanted to devise a shot that had the same, almost lava lamp-like appearance that her outfit does.
For layer number one we took some lime Jello-O and added orange bitters to it before it had completely solidified. By using something that hardens as the first layer, we could create a distinct structure that we could put the next layer on top of. If you’re making these yourselves, put the liquid Jell-O mixture in your final container at an angle. When it solidifies, it’ll keep its shape and angle when you remove it from the fridge.
After the Jell-O is prepared, quite simply pour some dark bitter liqueur on top of it to complete the Shego look! My favorite liqueur to pair this with is Nocino, a sweet and cinnamony black walnut liqueur that I made a while back. We also tried black sambuca, and it completely changed the shot, but not in a bad way. You could absolutely put other black spirits on top of this or change out the bitters you use in the first layer. Heck, you can also use different colored Jell-O and make your own slanted character shot!
Flavor Analysis
You start with the bitter and yet cinnamony flavor of the nocino that overpowers the sweet and sour lime until you breathe and take on the sweeter flavors.
