An orange drink filled with crushed ice sits on a cluttered bartop. The drink has a half of a lime with strawberry slices scattered atop it. Additional strawberry slices can be seen on a cutting board behind the drink on a rubber bar map. Assorted measuring equipment is also seen.

“We're jammin' in the jungle to the rhythm of one” -  Rafiki, The Rhythm of One

Inspiration

Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade (say it 5 times fast, I dare ya), arrived in Animal Kingdom in 2001 as part of Walt Disney's 100th birthday celebration, 100 Years of Magic. The arrival of the Navi and planet Pandora to Animal Kingdom in 2014 ultimately led to the parade’s closing. The parade floats were a mix of extravagant animals and floats of Mickey and the gang on the way out to the jungle to do goodness knows what. Goofy and Minnie's Floats can still be found in Chicago at the Volo Museum. This cocktail recipe inspired by that same parade is a jammin’ combination of flavors including those of tequila, grappa, and everyone’s controversial favorite Campari.

Workshopping

The vibe for this parade felt like it suited the vibes of a tiki drink, where you relax with extra music under the large-leaf trees as the entertainers wander past your seat. The parade was Axnna’s favorite and thus highlighting the floats was the best way to enhance this sipping experience. We started by going through each float and highlighting flavors that would work.

Axnna would describe the flavor of the XBar’s bottle of Berta Grappa di Moscato as soapy. So it represents Minnie Mouse’s parade float. Tequila’s got that young agave brightness that we agreed would match the vibrancy of the parade outfits and vehicles. The vibrant reds, especially the ones that accent Mickey’s signature parade outfit had us adding a bit of strawberry-infused Campari, which you might recognize as the Infusion of Fire.

To top it off, we attempted to make our own fanatical parade float garnish with a cut strawberry and a hollowed-out lime half. As I’m sure you can tell by the picture, it turned out as well as it could considering the Grinch costume the bartender was wearing. Why was he wearing one? Oh, that happens sometimes when we raise money for charity.

Flavor Analysis

This has a very forward soapy vegetal bite that is accented by the tart strawberry Campari. A spirit-forward drink that combines well but maintains its distinguished flavors in each sip.
