(7) Michigan St vs (2) Marquette
I have a cocktail in my collection that I have been meaning to make for a while now, and that there is the Michigander. The story behind this cocktail I found very heartwarming, and I'll let you dive into the full read on your own. Long story short, Jason Schiffer left Michigan for South California and missed home so much that he made a cocktail reminiscing on it (and I think that's absolutely adorable and incredibly relatable).
The drink itself uses Cynar, a spirit that I unfortunately did not have in my collection at the time of this stream, however, I was able to substitute it with Amaro Nonino which still made for a very Fall-season drink that was absolutely lovely.
I would later learn that this cocktail combo also has a variation, also by Schiffer, that transforms it into the Detroiter (by adding some bitter IPA on top of the drink). This and other recipes are in Schiffer and Stolte's book, Home Bar Basics (and Not-So Basics). Hopefully, I'll be able to add this one to my Lixbrary one day.
