If a cocktail is to be specifically green, then my smooth brain assumption of what's inside of it is Midori. It's that green bottle of liqueur that's a bit bumpy on the sides and allegedly tastes like a Japanese melon. I've never been to Japan, nor have I ever had a Midori melon, so I'mma just have to take the bottle at face value.
Midori's official website has a number of Grinchly cocktails to mix with this sweet substance. Including this one, the Japanese Gin & Tonic. Implications on why this one is the Japanese iteration of the Gin & Tonic are beyond my right to speak on. A piece of me wants to believe that there is more to the Japanese spirit world than just Midori and Suntory, but alas ignorance is bliss. I do remain curious though nonetheless. If anyone has anything else that I can use as my Japanese spirit factoid, Id rather not keep breaking the ice with "Did you know that Midori is the Japanese word for green... anyways... here's your cocktail."
Overall, as I've been learning with Gin & Tonics, since there are a small number of ingredients, getting any of them wrong can be detrimental. This version I made with cheap tonic water that I got from my local Whole Foods, and it's just not doing it for me. This one's just a bit unbalanced with the proportions I used below.
Next time I'd probably drown out with more green essence so at least my mouth expects the potentially unwelcomed metallic flavor that I may or may not already associate with those DIY slime kits.
Oddly enough, I have a very specific memory of this slime in a Lego Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set that I had as a child.... Funny what drinking will make you think of 🤔
