Another deified delectable drink that I had a chance to try this week is the cocktail dedicated to the goddess Hestia. Evidently, Hestia doesn't care too much about the whole drama and mythos of Greek mythology. And honestly, I don't think that's a bad thing.

The cocktail riff that was created for this goddess is a simple twist on an old classic. An old-fashioned is usually made with whiskey and simple syrup which is a sugar cube, this old-fashioned uses cognac and honey syrup. In the spirit of "lighting the hearth for Hestia", this iteration flames an expressed orange peel over the top.

The aroma is incredibly citrus-forward and delightfully sweet to drink. It is truly unlike any old-fashioned that I have had, and that's for the better. The ones I've mixed for myself have been rather dry, and not sweet enough for my taste buds. This one on the other hand, is just right. If I had to pick a deity of choice to bless my old fashions going forward, Hestia would be my number one!
