For those of us who remember the Negroni Spagliato "with Prosecco in it... Oh stunning..." incident of 2022, you may be wondering about the next chapter of Sexy Summer Cocktails to Sip and Slump With.

Evidently, the folks over at Good Morning America took the deep dive to help us media consumers figure out where to take our carnal capitalistic cravings next.

The Espresso Tonic is of Scandinavian origin and entry numero uno for contending for the top summer cocktail of 2023. This simple mix is open and honest about itself. Taking center stage with their contradictory bubbly personality and bitter dark side, Espresso Tonic knows how to take advantage of our audience's "totally superficial and not-at-all concerning" caffeine addiction.

In truth this entry isn't really a cocktail at all, unless you do the dirty work yourself. However, despite it not being like our other boozy beauties it certainly deserves your attention.

I found that this was incredibly pleasant to sip on! The combination of bitter coffee and bittersweet tonic water was not something that I was expecting would be as good as it is. Having learned recently that if you're going to use tonic water, you better use the right one, I specifically went out of my way to get one of those tiny bottles so that I felt more luxurious with my ingredient purchase. I did not pay the same respect to the espresso, but it really didn't matter. The tonic and espresso balanced so wonderfully and I found myself sipping on it for the rest of the stream and afterwards.

It's cool, refreshing, and oddly energizing, but coffee to me is a year-round thing, and not well-fitting for a "Drink of the Summer".
