I've known about Blue Hawaiians for a very long time and I've honestly been trying to avoid them.

My reason is because I knew that if I took even a little sip of one, that I'd be tempted to just down the entire thing. To me, it's basically a liquid Piña Colada that just so happens to look like it was dispensed from a freshly blue-ified toilet.

Like, if Malibu cocktails were cleaning products, the Blue Hawaiian is the stuff that turns your toilet water blue, a Piña Colada would be like those foaming carpet cleaners, and a Malibu Bay Breeze would I guess be wood varnish because I guess it makes wood look more woody...

In any case, this just tastes wonderful. It's sweet in all of my favorite ways, namely coconut and pineapple. The Curaçao that I used, I think it was Hiram Walker, has a distinct aftertaste that I'm not totally a fan of, and I could still taste it as I moved onto the next cocktail in the stream. It definitely didn't ruin the experience, just made it less than perfect.

I'll also note, that foam that you see up on top, I don't think is normal for Blue Hawaiians. I happened to use some pineapple juice that had been sitting around for a while and started to get bubbly in my refrigerator. I'm relatively sure that this contributed to the very prominent foam head there. That being said, I wonder if there's a Blue Hawaiian variant that exists out there that uses Tepache (a fermented pineapple type drink) instead of the pineapple juice.

I think the next time I come into possession of a whole pineapple, I'll be giving that a try next!
