Sooooo much of a journey were those Bitters Lab bitters that I had to make at least one more cocktail during the Sampling Bitters stream. In this case, I opted for a Black Manhattan recipe sourced from the Bitters Lab website!

I took some liberties with this one since the remaining bottles in my collection of spirits do not include anything labeled Sugarhouse or Waterpocket (unfortunately). I will say though that this was the perfect opportunity to use that bottle of Mr Black Coffee Amaro I got for my birthday.

Combined together, this is one of the least sweet and delectable cocktails I've made in a while. Instead of a comforting sweetness (normally provided by some sweet vermouth) there's a collection of other flavors that make up for it. The mocha and orange notes from the amaro blend so nicely with the oak-derived notes of vanilla from the bourbon. The addition of Bitters Lab in this case lend their charcoal and fruit (think red grape skin) flavors to bring a bit of those vermouth notes back to the palate.
