The drink, not the state. A yellow-tinted, and almost gem-like, colored liquid in a faceted coupe glass. A graft of lemon peel floats in the center.

The Alaska drink is one I've been hyped to try ever since it was recommended to me by Brad (AKA MTA). I've been informed that it's one of those simple cocktails that's hard not to appreciate. After my first taste, I agree completely!

I'd describe an Alaska as being like drinking the gin it's made with, but more palatable (depending on your familiarity with drinking gin straight).

The yellow chartreuse adds just the right amount of sweetness to support the gin that it's stirred with, without overpowering it at all. Expressed lemon oils and that dash of orange bitters adds just a touch of citrus that augments those more oily aspects of the gin.

To summarize, the Alaska is a cocktail that brings down the threshold for drinking any gin. We used The Botanist here, and it was incredibly pleasant. I personally feel that if I am to ever try a new gin, or compare one gin to another, my cocktail control of choice would be to use an Alaska.
